You’ve Got Mail: {July} Foodie Penpal

I can’t believe today is the last day in July, seems like we just started 2012. Few things happened quite a lot this Summer, but one of the best things is having new friends.

I don’t remember how I stumbled across Linday’s Foodie Penpals, but I’m glad I did. If you’ve never heard of this program, it’s a monthly program where bloggers and blog readers in U.S., Canada, and UK get matched up to send each other package of food, and then blog about it. I had been reading about this post on other blogs, and finally decided to sign up for it in July.

I got my excellent treats from Talia of Bite Size Wellness. It is a health hub that bloggers contribute their healthy living experiences and tips to. Isn’t it fun? I always find it very informative each time I visit her site, so don’t forget to check it out.

I was so excited to open the package and see all these tasty snacks in a box. The part that really made me smile was when I saw garlic, a nice one, inside the box. She mentioned it in her card that she’s a fan of garlic. Well, little did she know, I’m a big fan, too! So, this really cracked me up. First, I tried the maple peanut brittle and I found myself addicted to this. Seriously – I couldn’t stop munching this one for at least 20 minutes. That’s quite dangerous because once I had stopped, I started munching on the pretzels. Unlike any other pretzel snacks, I found this one crunchy and felt like eating chips, instead. A healthy chips, I must say, especially when dipped in Blueberry Plum Jam. I was swoon! Of course, I didn’t forget about garlic since I was tempted to make garlic spread. However, I found out I was ran out of my garlic the next day, so this garlic really came for a mission.

I had so much fun participating in Foodie Penpals and will definitely be doing it again, hopefully be a regular. So want to be a Foodie Pen Pal? Head over to the Lean Green Bean and sign up today!

Here’s some info of what the program is all about:

  • On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
  • The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
  • You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
  • Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
  • Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
